When you hear the name Nepal right now, what images come to mind?
For most of us, that name now rewinds a painful reel: rushing floodwaters, crumbling hillsides, and homes reduced to mud and rubble. In minutes, water swallowed homes families had lived in for generations. Fields vanished under mud. Neighbors who once shared meals and Sunday worship together now searched for the wreckage for one another.
But beyond the breaking news headlines lies a reality that hits even closer to home for us as believers: our brothers and sisters in Christ in Nepal are carrying a heavy, double burden.
A Faith Tested by Trial and Water
Even before the floodwaters rose, the Church in Nepal was walking a difficult road. In recent years, our Christian family there has faced growing religious hostility, anti-conversion laws, and intense social pressure just for choosing to follow Jesus. Pastors have faithfully led their congregations under the shadow of uncertainty, holding fast to the Gospel despite systemic hardship.
And now, this catastrophe has struck
In regions like Rasuwa and Nuwakot, devastation is profound. Church buildings once places of refuge, worship, and prayer — have been swept away or heavily damaged. Among them is Naw Jyoti Baptist Church in Nuwakot, a sacred place of community now suffering severe loss.
Tragically, dozens of lives have been claimed by the waters, and numerous believers, including faithful local pastors, remain missing.
Serving in the Dark
Right now, local church leaders on the ground are facing immense challenges. Electricity is out, mobile networks are down, and key roads have been washed away. Gathering accurate information or reaching remote villages is a monumental struggle.
Yet, even in the silence and darkness, these pastors and leaders are doing everything they can to care for their scattered flocks. As a ministry, we are keeping a watchful, prayerful eye on the situation, actively working to bring urgent emergency relief directly to our brothers and sisters in Christ and those within their circle of influence who need it most.
We Will Not Let the Body of Christ Suffer Alone
Scripture calls us not to grow weary in doing good and, as we have the opportunity, to do good to all people especially to those who belong to the family of believers (see Galatians 6:9–10). Nepal’s pain reaches far beyond our own church family, and our hearts grieve with every household affected. But as members of the global Body of Christ, we are called first to stand with our brothers and sisters in Nepal, who now carry the added weight of walking this crisis as a persecuted minority.
We cannot stand by while our family in Christ grieves loss of life, loss of home, and loss of their places of worship.
Now is the moment for us to be the hands and feet of Jesus. We want to ensure that as these believers look up from the rubble, the first thing they experience is the tangible, overflowing love of Christ through His global family.
